Some people believe that teenagers should concentrate on all school subject. Others believe that teenagers should focus on the subject that they are best at or that they find the most interesting.
Discuss both these views and your own opinion.
Some people find it difficult to decide whether they should allow students to choose their favorite subjects to learn or force them to receive an all-round education. I would say that students’ interest and well-rounded training are equally important.
Some people are strong advocates of a well-rounded education because this kind of education can help students gain knowledge in multiple areas. If students choose to learn the subjects they are interested in but ignore others, they are more likely to fail on connecting with other fields. For example, if they only learn science and ignore languages. As learning a language will assist them to learn original ideas rather than the translated versions which may be inaccurate.
However, there are concerns that students may not perform well academically if they are forced to learn a brads range of curriculum. Teenagers have limited energy and of they only learn what they like, they probably can achieve better academic performance. This can even enhance their confidence in studying. The sense of achievement further encourages them to be experts in a specific field. Like engineering.
My personal view is that we should reconcile students’ interest with the all-round education. Students can be encouraged to choose some of their favorites like geography or arts, while they have to learn some subjects with great passion meanwhile they still have a better chance to enter a top university because of having knowledge and skills in other essential fields.
In conclusion, students’ interests are critical in intelligent development, and a well-rounded education is a stepping stone for most students. We should take both factors into consider when making the curriculum.
