Men and women tend to start parenting late in life these days.Several factors contribute to the phenomenon and I think this development is negative to a large extent despite some positive impacts.

One of the most prominent reasons is that governments expect couples to start a family late. In some countries, men and women postpone their plans of becoming parents because governments advocate late marriage and late childbirth by giving rewards. In addition, the high cost of nurturing a baby is another concern to many families. Due to such heavy financial pressure, it is understandable that a number of couples choose to wait till middle age. What more, women nowadays prefer to study for higher degrees and pursue better career development before getting married and having babies.

Although late childbirth can slow down the growth of population and enable parents to create a better living condition for their offspring this development has negative impacts in many aspects. It not only leads to the increase of aging population but also the shortage of workforce. In the long run, the young generations will bear the burden of taking care of the elderly. In addition, women may suffer from high risk pregnancy if they choose to have a child in their 40s or even older age.
