May to August 2019 IELTS Speaking Part 2 Topic #9 Describe a time when someone didn’t tell you the whole truth about something

Describe a time when someone didn’t tell you the whole truth about something
You should say:
When it happened;
What the situation was;
Who you were with;
And why the person didn’t tell you the whole truth.

When it comes to a time I was lied to, the first thing that I can think of is the time I was cheated
by an online shop.

The thing is that last July, I had just gotten a new job and moved to a new apartment from my dorm. So I thought I needed a cooker to make meals. One of my friends told me that she bought a kind of pressure cooker online. On her advice, I bought one from Taobao at once.

But after several weeks, I found that it often overcooked the food. I contacted the customer service of the online shop. They told me that they could repair it, but I needed to pay 200 yuan for the repair. I thought I was just out of luck, so I paid them money to repair it.

However, several months later, when I was cleaning the house, I found the guarantee card of the rice cooker. It stated that the company could repair the cooker for free within 3 years. You know,it means the online shop took advantage of me by lying. I was so angry, but it had been a long time since the repair so I decided to let it pass. But it really taught me a lesson. I’ve never bought anything from this shop again.
