Describe something that you brought home from a tourist attraction
You should say:
what it is
where you got it
why you brought it home

I’d like to talk about a change purse that I bought in Sichuan last summer vocation. As we all know, Sichuan is the home for pandas. Last summer vocation, I went to Cheng du Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding with my friends to see these cute pandas. In the research base, there are some souvenir stores where people can buy some products designed with panda elements. In one of the stores, I saw a change purse which was printed a huge face of panda. And the most interesting thing is that the opening of the purse is the panda’s mouth. So every time when I put coins into the purse, it seems like the panda is eating the coins. I think this purse is interesting and cute, so I bought two without hesitation, one for myself, the other for my nephew who is a crazy fan of panda.

Part 3

Why do people buy souvenirs?
After you asked me this question, I just thought of my my traditional clothes from Thailand, my kangaroo toy from Australia, my beautiful postcards from Paris and my beautiful carved vase from the Maldives. These stuff bring a smile to my heart and my face. For each item I remember exactly the moment I saw it, the people I talked to and the site where I purchased them. All the circumstances flash in my mind and I smile at the so interesting experience I had at that moment. But actually, nobody is interested in hearing about these details about your trips and even more about the souvenirs you brought back. This is a memory for you only and it brings great pleasure.

What types of things do people buy as souvenirs?
Souvenirs should be some small stuff that are meaningful and can be a reminder of their travels, something to show for where they have been, something they can use to look back and reminisce about the fantastic experience they had during their holiday. For example, postcards with beautiful views you have seen during your trip or fridge magnets with landscapes.

Do you think it would be a good investment for a local person living in a tourist area to open a shop to sell souvenirs?
Yes, I think so. Souvenirs own a large market in tourist areas because most tourists are very willing to buy. Sometimes selling souvenirs can be really profitable, therefore it would be a good investment for local people to sell souvenirs.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking a camera on a trip?
Taking a camera on a trip enables tourists to record beautiful sceneries and interesting events with high quality pictures, and these pictures can be valuable memories for tourists. These are advantages of bringing a camera. As for disadvantages, taking a camera to travel might be inconvenient as cameras are heavy.

Why do you think people like to show the photos of their trip to their friends and relatives?
Showing photos of trips to friends and relatives is a way to share private memories. By doing so, they can get closer to their friends and relatives.

What are the differences between writing a diary about a trip and taking photos of your trip?
Writing diaries is a way to keep your inner thoughts while taking pictures is a way to record visual memories. They are both very good methods of maintaining memories, however, diaries are more subjective but pictures are more objective.
