I’d like to talk about cactus which is my favorite plant on this planet. I have one right by my desktop. It’s been there for a while. It looks adorable. It’s covered by small thorn, like a green fuzzy tennis ball. It just quietly stands there, like a small guardian.

Well, like all living things, they vary greatly. It occurs in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Some look like bare trees. Others resemble small balls covered by thorns. Some reports show that it can absorb radiation. That explains why many people put it at home.

As for where it lives, well most cactus live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Many live in extremely dry environments, even being found in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth.

Now, let me explain why I like it so much. Cactus show many adaptations to conserve water. It probably is the strongest plant on this planet. It can survive in the worst environments. It doesn’t need much attention or care. Leave it alone, it just thrives. In addition, it is also important for the eco-system in China. As you know, there are large area of deserts in my country, so we need cactuses to guard and bring green and life to the desert. Cactus is really of great importance.

Do you think children should be allowed to do farming in China?
Yes, I do. I believe farming can give children a sense of achievement. Witnessing a plant or a crop growing from a seed to a bud and then prospering is quite meaningful. In addition, they can have a clear idea how plants are like in different stages and how long each stage lasts. Interest in biology can also be triggered in this way. Besides, being involved in farming can let children know it is hard for farmers to grow crops, so they will tend to treasure food rather than wasting it.

For those people who lived in city, where do you think they could have some plant?
Well, there are lots of plants which are small in size and are suitable to be kept in home. For example, potted flowers, cactus and so on. They can be kept in living rooms, balconies and bedrooms and they are available in markets. Once you buy them, the shop owner would tell you how to care them. All you need to do is to water them and pull the weeds. Well, trust me, you will feel relaxed and happy when you see beautiful or green plants grow perfectly in your balcony bathing the sunlight.

Can you explain why some people like to farming?
In my opinion, it is because farming can give people a sense of achievement. Witnessing a plant or a crop growing from a seed to a bud and then prospering is quite meaningful. I think this also explains why many people like to share photos of blossomed flowers and fruits of plants they have grown in person online. In addition, many people like to grow organic crops so that they can eat fresh, healthy and nutrient vegetables and fruits every day.

Have you ever had a plant?
Well, my mother buy flowers once a week and put them in the living room as decoration. Every time when I open the door of my home, I can smell the sweet fragrance, which makes my feel relaxed. Up to now, we have had rose, lily, violet, jasmine and carnation. All of them are stunning and in my opinion, the living room is lit up by them. I love the flowers so much and I always share photos of them online. Usually, I can receive lots of likes and comments, which make me feel satisfied.

Is there anyone around you have a plant before? Why they have it?
My neighbor likes to grow lots of green plants in his balcony. From a distance, you can only see large areas of green leaves covering his balcony. He told me that he loves plants. What’s more, plants can absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen thus making the air quality better. Lastly, green is a color which is said to be good for eyes and easing fatigue. I guess these are the reasons why he keeps so many plants.

Do you think there will be more people farm their own crops in the future?
Yes, I do. As lots of news have reported, nowadays many fertilizers and pesticides which are applied to crops are toxic and may do harm to people who eat those crops. In this case, I believe more and more people will try to grow crops in person. They can ensure those fruits and vegetables are safe and fresh at least, so they will feel more assured when having meals. At the same time, I believe better fertilizers and pesticides which are eco-friendly, safe and can ensure higher yields will be invented in the future.

Have you ever think about become a farmer?
Well, actually I haven’t. To tell you the truth, I am kind of lazy. However, farmers’ job is quite hard. They have to get up early and think about the crops all the time. In addition, usually farmers work under the sun while I do not want be exposed to sunlight for such a long period of time because I don’t want my skin to get black. You know, as a girl I want myself to always be beautiful and pretty. So farmer is by no means an ideal job for me, but farmers are respectful. It is because of them that we can have produce and have a balance diet.

What are the benefits for having plants indoor?
As for the plants, people can control the temperature, humidity and light indoor. Plants can also be protected from strong wind, heavy rain and snow. Therefore, it is more appropriate to plant more fragile and precious plants indoor. As for people who live with those plants, the air quality can be improved as plants can absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. They can also have a better mood and feel relaxed because plants are helpful to ease fatigue.

What’s the difference between having plant indoor and outdoor?
The size is different definitely. Generally speaking, plants which grow indoors are smaller than those that grow outdoors as there is no enough room. Besides, people can control the temperature, humidity and light indoor. Plants can also be protected from strong wind, heavy rain and snow. Therefore, it is more appropriate to plant more fragile and precious plants indoor. However, plants grow outdoor can bathe in sunlight more directly.
