I’d like to talk about Hanyu Yuzuru who is a a Japanese figure skater competing in the men’s singles discipline. He is a two-time Olympic champion and a two-time World champion. What’s more, he has broken world records twelve times, and currently holds the world records for the highest score. That’s why he is regarded as one of the most outstanding figure skaters.

Well I also learned to skate when I was about 10 years old so I am a big fan of skating. I watched his competition and was deeply impressed by his gorgeous performance. At that time, he was just a juvenile but he managed to make the most difficult jumps and spins. As a result, I was attracted by him immediately and started to pay attention to him.
Figure skating involves jumps, spin and dancing while skating on ice with background music. Specifically, here jumps involve the skater leaping into the air and rotating rapidly to land, which is very difficult. Hanyu is good at each aspect with incredible flexibility.
Now let me tell you why I think he is handsome. First and most obviously, it is because his face and appearance are charming. I bet you will also be attracted by him as soon as you see photos of him. No, I don’t. Of course a good appearance may help you to leave a good first impression on others. However, as a saying goes, we should not judge a book by its cover. It is the character that really matters. For example, if you are not kind or honest, no matter how beautiful or handsome you are, nobody will be willing to be your friend in the long run. In this case, I think it is more important for us to be a person with virtue and good manners.

What can you do to be more beautiful by yourself?
First of all, we can make ourselves more good-looking by making up. Cosmetic products such as foundation, concealer and mascara can help us to conceal certain flaws on our face while make our facial features look better. For example, your eyes will look bigger with eyeshadow and mascara. However, such method may be embarrassing for men. I believe being confident is the best way to be more beautiful. When you are full of self-confidence, you will be totally different and shiny.

How do we dress better?
In my opinion, clothes a person wears can reflect his or her taste of fashion to some extent. Therefore, if we can dress better it is sure that we can leave a better impression on others. First, we should choose right clothes style that really fits us. For example, for girls who are not tall, it is better to wear skirts and high heels rather than trousers and sneakers. In this way, we can conceal the flaws of our body shape. In addition, it is also essential to always wear proper clothes in different situations. For instance, if you are going to attend an interview, it is better to wear suits to show respect. Lastly, whether the clothes is comfortable should also be taken into consideration. If you are wearing a sweater that makes you feel itchy, it is certain that you will not be in a good mood all the day.

Do some stores recruit/hire good looks person? Why they do that?
Yes, they do. Stores where clothes, cosmetics and luxury products are sold prefer to recruit employees with good appearance. Actually I’m not quite sure about the reason, but I guess it is because for customers, shop assistants and staff of a certain brand are connected with the image of the brand. For example, when shopping in a clothes shop, you may regard the clothes as out of fashion if the shop assistants are not good-looking or even ugly. In addition, good appearance of employees can help customers to have a better mood while shopping. In this case, many shops give priority to beautiful or handsome people during recruitment.

Do you think good looks is an important criterion for company recruitment?
Well, I think for certain jobs, appearance is a key criterion. Especially for people who work for service industry such as stewardesses. Good appearance can create a sense of kindness, which makes consumers more satisfied while being served. Meanwhile, for actors and actresses, the more charming they are, the more fans they can attract. However, for other jobs, I think capability is more important as beautiful faces have nothing to do with one’s ability. Therefore many companies ask applicants to do exercises so that their ability of solving problems and collecting information can be tested.

Do you think good looks can improve sales?
Well I think it depends. Some customers tend to be attracted by beautiful packing. Even though the price may be more expensive than the same product but with normal packing, they are willing to pay more. However, there are also lots of people who only care about things inside packing. After all what you really need is the good inside rather than the outside package. On the other hand, I admit that when purchasing something as a present for others, it is better to choose the one with decent packing. Therefore, whether good looks equal to better sales depends on specific situation.

Which is more important, your inner beauty or your outer beauty?
I believe inner beauty is always the most important. Of course a good appearance may help you to leave a good first impression on others. If you want to describe a beautiful place/scene, would it be better to use pictures or words?
For me, I would use pictures. To be honest, I do not belong to those people who are good at expressing their ideas and thoughts. I don’t have the confidence that I can use language to describe the scenery accurately. Chances are that others may regard the place as normal due to my poor expression. Therefore, it is more sensible to show pictures directly. However, there are also lots of people through whose language the place being described become more picturesque. You can imagine the charming scenery with their poetic words and I really hope one day I can also do so.
